A new design of the kernel is in progress...
To list 500 children of a node it takes about 25 secondes when logged as guest and about 5 s when connected as root. Currently, security checks imply a lot of database requests and they are skipped when logged as root.
Therefore when kernel redesign will be done, most of database requests will be removed and performance should be greatly improved.
